Bieber Embraces Faith, Family, and DMX’s Wisdom in Latest Post
Justin Bieber has continued to make headlines after he re-posted an Instagram video on Sunday (July 24), which many have dubbed a thinly-veiled drug-related message. The 31-year-old singer has sparked a debate about weed and sobriety with his cryptic message, which features a previous conversation between rapper DMX and popular social commentator Iyanla Vanzant from 2013’s Iyanla: Fix My Life.
In the reposted video, which was originally published on IG by a Los Angeles-based weed dispensary called Gassy, Vanzant questions the late rapper DMX on whether he wants to live a sober life or not. “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?” the rapper boldly quips to the commentator. “Because, when you don’t put anything in your mouth but food and water, you become a clear, pure vessel for the voice of God,” she says before X fires back, “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God.”
The latest from Bieber didn’t come with any explicit captions, but reposting of this incendiary video has been enough to raise all sorts of online reactions in media articles, as well as commentaries on Bieber’s beliefs and the subject of weed in general. Bieber has not immediately released any further statement on the matter of the post so far. Fans have not taken long to react to the post.
Was the viral video a direct message from Bieber about weed? Or could the subliminal Instagram post be something else? These have been some of the many questions and memes fans have questioned, with some even pointing out that this could be Bieber again using drugs or relapsing. Others have also pointed out that it might just be a simple case of the singer wanting to share a topic about sobriety with fans about how freedom, faith, and being sober co-exist.
Bieber’s new post also seems to further fuel debates of his relaxed view and stance when it comes to recreational weed smoking. In recent months, the singer has not been shy to post bongs, and dabbing smoke, as well as showing pictures of himself and his family at home. While that might have been concerning for many fans of his, since the singer has been open about addiction and recovery in the past. This seems like a natural shift in behavior and lifestyle for Bieber, especially in that recreational marijuana is now 100% legal in the state of California, where Bieber resides with his wife, Hailey Bieber, and their son, Jack Bieber.
In any case, the singer’s representative was quick to shut down social media rumors that Bieber was involved in illegal drug use earlier this year. In a February statement to TMZ, his rep responded to rumors that the singer was “abusing any type of hard drugs or going down that path.” His rep went on to assert that such rumors were “absolutely not true” as Bieber is “in one of the best places in his life,” with family and his music. “Justin is a father now, which is the biggest joy of his life, and he is focusing on being the best husband, father, and artist that he can be,” a rep added.
Justin Bieber Grows As A Person, Drops New Album “Swag” To Fanfare
The rep went on to confirm that the singer has “been doing a lot of work on himself,” including “detaching himself from people and things” that no longer served him. These people include some of his long-standing friends and business acquaintances who have been with him for close to a decade. This internal development in Bieber’s life is not unconnected to a new sound and artistry that was evidenced in a surprise release of a new studio album earlier this year.
Justin Bieber dropped his seventh solo studio album, called Swag, on July 11 to rave reviews. The new album, which featured appearances by Gunna and MADEINTY, O, is a more reflective and intimate look at his personal development, love for Hailey and his wife, and parenthood. The former teen star also left fans curious when he mixed in comedy skits led by social media personality Druski. Druski took fans through imaginary therapy sessions, and as a result, fans were introduced to Bieber’s more vulnerable side.
With the mix of comedy and reflective song lyrics, Swag is a new lease of life for Justin Bieber. This is a record that shows the 31-year-old as an artist more comfortable in his skin, both musically and spiritually. The bigger question is whether Bieber will follow up his new album with world tour dates in support of Swag?
Touring for Bieber Has Been Up in the Air in 2022
While there hasn’t been any official news or statement on the question of Justin Bieber touring in 2023 or 2024, some speculation has arisen as to whether Bieber will be touring in Australia. When Rolling Stone reached out to Aussie-based promoters Frontier Touring, a publicist responded to state that they had “no information” about tour dates for Bieber. It is to be recalled that Bieber had to call off his last world tour, Justice, in 2022 after only about half of the tour dates were completed. This was after the singer had to seek hospital medical attention following a string of bouts of coughing bouts.
However, it is to be expected that Justin Bieber will be touring eventually since the last few years have given him time to recalibrate his personal life, especially now that he has a new family and album. With Swag out now, new family life, and a more grounded person, Justin Bieber fans can expect a Bieber tour this year or next. Justin Bieber has succeeded yet again in not saying anything and yet meaning it all by a single post.
