She was surprised with the honor on her hospital unit after being nominated by the family of a former patient.

The nomination came from Esther, whose daughter was a patient in the seven East unit of Integris Hospital. Esther praised Martin for the warmth and reassurance she offered during a challenging time. “Your hard work. Your kindness,” Esther told Martin. “We just appreciated everything you did.” She emphasized how Martin’s presence brought comfort and gratitude during her family’s hospital stay.

Artoya French, Nurse Director, highlighted the joy Martin brings to both patients and coworkers: “Well, Anita’s been on our floor for a little over two years and we love her,” French shared. “She’s definitely a welcoming face. She always has a smile on her face. She takes care of anything we need on our floor and the patients love her as well as our caregivers, so we’re glad to have her on our unit.”

Upon receiving the award, Martin expressed her gratitude and surprise, admitting that the recognition moved her to tears. She shared that the opportunity to interact with patients and offer comfort is her favorite aspect of working at Integris Hospital. “I appreciate getting up, coming to work every day and people that I never met a day in my life,” Martin said. “And I can go in the room and cheer him up. Yeah. They like to laugh. Cheer him up. They sick. But sometimes you can go in and just cheer them up and laugh with them. And I like doing that.”
